Beyond the Stage: A Capital Campaign for Education and Administration Space

Music Theatre Wichita celebrated its first half-century of service in 2021. The Beyond the Stage Campaign launches the organization into its second half-century of service.

Our summer productions continue to dazzle audiences at Century II Performing Arts Center, and it remains our performance venue.

The heartbeat of Music Theatre Wichita has found a new home venue. Architecturally pleasing, it will provide the room and type of space required for MTWichita. Our administration, educational classes and initiatives, rehearsal space, and shops will thrive in a refurbished, state-of-the-art facility owned and operated by Music Theatre Wichita.

In this space, imagination is sparked and fanned to a flame; dance moves are tried; voices are trained, refined, and polished; and stagecraft is honed until it all sparkles for the stage. This is the place where artistry is born.

Music Theatre Wichita Announces
Capital Campaign for Education and Administration Space

This week, we gathered supporters to share plans for a capital campaign raising funds for new educational opportunities, space for youth programming, and offices for staff. Our summer performances will remain at Century II – this additional space provides incredible opportunity for us to grow and serve our community.

We have raised $16.1 million towards a goal of $25 million to expand and renovate the former Webster Elementary School at 640 N. Emporia.

Thanks to a leadership gift from the Slawson Family, this new space will be dedicated as the Judy Slawson Center for Musical Theatre. We are incredibly grateful for Judy’s decades of service to Music Theatre Wichita as a Board Member and patron, and to her family for honoring her legacy in this way.

Music Theatre Wichita celebrates its 54th season this summer. Over the course of our existence we’ve entertained millions! We have visitors from 2,700 unique zip codes (Wichita has 42), draw more than 50,000 patrons downtown annually, have youth participants from more than 60 cities, and are planning for the future to continue on the incredible community of patrons and artists that have made us what we are.

We will have a lot more detail to share about our campaign as we continue on, but we invite you to celebrate with us the progress made so far. We are incredibly grateful to the 100 households, corporations, and foundations who have given to date.
