COVID-19 (Updated 3.25.2020)
Each day now, our inboxes are filled with news from various organizations as they determine how they can adapt to the challenges of the global health crisis. Of course Music Theatre Wichita, with its upcoming summer performance schedule and its seasonal employment of hundreds of talented young people, has not been exempted from these concerns.
Recently, our pre-season auditions were cut short, and the Century II complex which is home for both our offices and our performances is currently closed (although we are all working from our homes as we make plans for the coming season).
We feel strongly that Music Theatre Wichita will have a vital role to play in bringing joy and community spirit back to Wichita, just as soon as we all can emerge from the health concerns which must presently be our main focus.
We pride ourselves on being an organization that is creative and flexible, and while there is much that remains unknown in the coming weeks, we are committed to providing services to our loyal patrons throughout this unique year.
We promise to be forthcoming and candid, and to keep you informed of any changes as soon as possible in the coming weeks. And we are grateful for your flexibility with us, as we fulfill our missions of entertainment and education within the safest possible guidelines for our patrons and our talented workers.
Here at Music Theatre Wichita, a task force has been assembled to help our board and staff make decisions in the weeks ahead. We’re also in close contact with other performing arts venues and
theatres, and we are learning from those in cities experiencing outbreaks right now.
We are grateful for frequent communication from the City of Wichita staff as we all work together to comply with requirements and recommendations from the state, the county, and the CDC.
Although Century II is closed to the public, we are still available to answer phones (316.265.3253), and to answer emails.
We’ll keep updates forthcoming on our website. In the meantime, the choruses of “You’re the One That I Want” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard” are a length that fits with the CDC hand washing guidelines, so you can prepare for the season while keeping germs at bay.
Please take care.
